Welcome to the Brooklyn College Internship Program
The Brooklyn College Internship Program gives students an opportunity to “try on” a job for a semester while still pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. Internships complement students’ educational experience by applying lessons learned in the classroom to the world of work. The Internship Program helps students explore various opportunities by offering mandatory Internship and Interview Skills Workshops that improve their resumes, teach effective interviewing skills, and help them clearly focus their career goals. Steps to a great internship: How do I obtain an internship? Register with the Magner Center . Attend the resume, interview and e-recruiting/job search workshops. Suggestion: Attend the "Finding the Right Internship" workshop. Write a resume. Have it reviewed by a career counselor during drop-in hours. Schedule an appointment to meet with the Internship Development. Specialist, Miriam Miles, to discuss your goals and interests. You can call her at 718 951-5774 or email her at mmiles@brooklyn.cuny.edu .
What happens when I meet with the internship development specialist? An exploratory interview will be conducted to discuss your career aspirations. Strategies for your internship search will be discussed. You will receive an Internship Packet. Once you are referred to companies. You must follow the employer's application procedures.
If I am placed, what are the next steps? Inform the internship development specialist that you have been placed. Complete an internship learning agreement (contained in the internship packet). It must be signed by the employer and returned within the first two weeks of employment. Provide periodic updates of your internship experience.
What happens when I complete my internship? Have your supervisor complete the evaluation form (contained in the Internship Packet) and return to the internship development specialist. Schedule a follow up appointment to discuss the evaluation, review your career goals and update your resume. Once your learning agreement and evaluation are submitted and a follow up appointment has been conducted, a certificate of recognition will be awarded.
